MobileTAC Terrorist Alert Center
Operations Overview

MobileTAC runs two redundant news and electronic signals monitoring control centers. These centers are more than 1,000 miles apart, and are positioned outside high-probability terrorist targets and weather disruption zones to ensure optimal availability. Redundant systems and feeds are in place at both centers to ensure 7 x 24 x 365 availability.

MobileTAC runs redundant notification servers which are connected to the internet backbone at fiber optic speeds. Load leveling software is in place to ensure that terrorist breaking news alerts are sent quickly to all MobileTAC customers. Periodic tests are run to ensure that the alert load delivery time to the internet backbone is less than one minute to all customers.

MobileTAC's primary servers are connected to the internet backbone via 6 separate service providers (AT&T (The merged SBC and former AT&T), Global Crossing, Genuity, Quest, Sprint, & UUNet).  MobileTAC's network connectivity speeds are 2.4 Gbps (theoretically over 5 M alerts could be sent per second (yes - that's a very big data pipe)), although actual throughput may vary due to a number of factors. For security reasons, details of the MobileTAC operations and system interconnects are classified.
